How to Stay Sane and Productive among Social Media Distractions

It’s no secret that social media can be a huge time sink. But it doesn’t have to be! Here are some tips to help you stay sane and productive while still maintaining your social media presence.

1. Set limits for yourself. Whether it’s setting a timer or limiting the number of times you check your feed, make sure you’re not spending more time than you want on social media.

2. Use an app like Freedom or StayFocusd to block distracting sites. This can be a great way to avoid getting pulled into the black hole of social media when you’re trying to be productive.

3. Take breaks throughout the day to check in on social media. If you find yourself getting too wrapped up in what’s happening on your feed, take a step back and take a break.

4. Follow people and brands that inspire you. If you’re constantly being bombarded with negativity on social media, make an effort to follow people and brands that make you feel good.

5. Unfollow or mute people and brands that add no value to your life. Social media should be enjoyable, not stressful. If someone or something is adding to your stress levels, get rid of them!

6. Use social media as a tool, not a crutch. Remember that social media is just a tool – it’s not the be-all and end-all of your online presence. Use it wisely and don’t let it consume your life.

If you find yourself constantly getting distracted by social media, try using the UnDistracted Chrome extension.   • Hide Marketplace
  • Hide Stories

LinkedIn settings

  • On LinkedIn, I have the folloiwng settings toggled on:
  • Turn off newsfeed
  • Turn off notifications

Twitter settings

  • On Twitter, I have the following settings toggled on:
  • Mute hashtags
  • Mute people
  • Hide media in tweets

I also use the Un Distracted Chrome extension to block Twitter while I’m trying to be productive.

Instagram settings

  • On Instagram, I have the following settings turned on:
  • turn off notifications
  • hide photos and videos in my feed
  • Hide Feed
  • Hide Messaging popup
  • Hide LinkedIn News

uBlock Origin Chrome extension

I also use the uBlock Origin Chrome extension to block all ads, including those on social media sites. This extension is great for reducing distractions and helping you stay focused on the task at hand.

Feedly

The Feedlert extension is another great way to reduce distractions from social media. This extension allows you to see how many new posts there are in your feed, without actually opening the site. This is a great way to stay on top of your social media without getting distracted by the content.

Overall, I think it’s important to take a break from social media every now and then. It can be easy to get caught up in what’s happening on your feed, but it’s important to remember that social media is just a tool – it’s not the be-all and end-all of your online presence.
